Proper wiring with fuses?

Proper wiring with fuses?
I spliced into the powe wire for the fuel pump. I am using a 20amp switch and 15amp fuse. Now I was wondering if this is Ok or do I need to go to 20amp fuse. When you wire inline fuses do you wire them a bit lower or a bit higher??
What kind of fuse should I run on the fuel pump power wire (tan and white)???
