Starting issues...

every once in a while when i goto the car and try to start it, when i turn it to on, the lights flash and the only ones that stay on is the security and service engine soon light. When i go to start it the brake light also comes on, the one for the hand brake.

but if i leave the car for a few minutes, and come back, it starts right up.

i was thinking it was a vats problem or something related, the metal connectors on the chip on the key are worn down almost completley, is that the reason, or anything else.

BTW it is a 1991 camaro rs 3.1 v6.

thanks for anything.

EDIT: also my dad thinks that it could be a problem with the car not being in park right, he thinks i messed it up when i adjusted the tv cable, is that a possibility?

Worn contacts on the key or lock cylinder will cause the problem that you are haveing with it starting. Letting it sit for a little while lets the VATS control module reset itself. Getting a new key from the dealership or a local locksmith that carries those keys should resolve your problem. The TV cable would not affect the transmission cable at the shifter and is a completely different cable.

ok, thats exactly what i thought the problem was, thanks for clearing that up.

Do you know about how long it takes for the vats system to reset itself?

Thanks Much

5 Minutes on the average, no more than 6 unless you sit there and continue to turn the key trying to start the car. Each time the key is turned, the cycle starts over.
