VATS resistor value question.

How picky is the VATS system when it comes to the resistor values? I have 2 keys, supposed to be for the same car, but the values differ by 20... say for example... 1000 and 1020. Would that make the VATS kick in so it wont let the car start?

Ive been chasing a aggrivating problem and still cant figure it out. The whole cranking related electrical is dead. No power to the starter relay, no power to the key, no power to the NSS, no power back to the starter, but the battery side of the starter has power and the fusible links are good. The VATS fuse also has power. It seems the power stops after the VATS fuse....

Check the wires at the base of the column for the proper ohms(with the key in the ignition in all positions!)...usually the key cylinder is the problem...the little signal wires break at the spot where they attach to the cylinder and then no cranky!

not too sure about the 20ohm diffrence..I`d say that it would not affect it but it just may

The OHM's variance will vary anywhere from 16 OHM's on the low side to 492 on the high side depending on the resistance value of the chip in the key. As the resistance value increases, so will the variance level.
