HORN Doesn't work ..Help!

what are the common problems with 3rd gen horns (89 formula) not working. I believe the fuse is okay.

I imagine its the button in the steering wheel, To remove the cover pad on the wheel do you just pry it up with a flat head screwdriver? I dont want to break anything trying to fix it. I think if i just took that off i could clean the contacts of the button or something.

ANy Suggestions?

Thanks

You'll need to remove the steering wheel. You have an airbag?
What breaks on these cars for the horn is a plastic tube that the horn wire plugs into or the contact ring (below the tube) slips out of place so the wire doesn't contact it. Either way the easiest way to get at it for a fix is to remove the wheel.

You'll need to rent the tool to pull the steering wheel. The tool kit I rented also included the tool to compress the spring loaded hub and instructions. This allows you can pull out the retaining ring that holds in that white plastic part you need to replace. The part is available in the HELP section of the parts store.

Along with the other things to check, you might want to look at the horn relay located under the dash in the convenience center.

I ended up needing the entire wiring harness for the horn when mine was replaced.

Horns are mandatory equipment in the Bay Area.
