security light staying on, have to let it reset
security light staying on, have to let it reset
I have a 91 firebird (3.1) and the engine was rebuilt.. It was finally fired up and runs (ok), but most of the time, when the engine is shut off, I have to wait 5 minutes for the security light to go off. This is an intermittent problem, most of the time I can get in the car and fire it up, but it wont restart unless I wait the 5 minutes.
edit: removed info about headlight control module.
And coincidentally, there is a drain on the battery somewhere - but I don't want to get into this YET unless it has to do with the guide box or something with the alarm/security stuff?

edit: removed picture.. it seems the GUIDE box on the firewall is actually the headlight control module - which should have nothing to do with the car starting
Which leads to my next question... I've done a bunch of searches on this site and in google, and have found other complaints of the same problem, but with no real explanation/solution.
I came upon a $40 product http://www.designtech-intl.com:8080/...catid=3&step=4 that is designed to bypass the chip for cars to be equipped with a remote starter. so my question is, can something like this bypass the chip all together? I'm NOT worried about theft, so I'd rather keep the ignition stuff simple as possible.
