Fuel Gauge and RPMS Gauge problem

Hello guys

I´m New to the board , but not new to the F bodies...

i own my car since i was 16 years old (1996).

when i bought it it had 30k original miles on the odometer (which is pretty rare since i live in another country.

i´m having some issues with the gauges , they dont read properly.

being more specific , the choke light is always light up , and the rpms are crazy...(they show 4500 rpms like stuck)

also the fuel gauge does not read properly , when you have a full tank the gauge shows 1/4 of tank aprox , and when you have half tank it will show like 1/8 of tank...

if i slap the dashpad with my hand the rpms will go back to normal and the choke light will go off, and the fuel gauge reads that it has a little bit more gas (like 1/2 tank) when its full , but still not normal

anyone can help me out??

i already took the car to some fellows that repair the fuel tank pump , but they told me that my fuel tank was ok and that the problem was probably on the gauges , but i was scared to death about them unscrewing my dash cause people around here loose screws and make nasty jobs

thanks in advance friends

Welcome to the boards

It sounds as if your gauges are just showing signs of ageing and could use a little lubrication. I would just take the cluster/gauges out and put a little lightweight non-detergent oil on them.
That worked for the tachometer for my old 84 camaro anyways.

*edit, also, while the cluster is removed, clean the contacts on the clusters printed circuit board and the harness connectors in the dash. I use a small eyeglass screwdriver to re-arch the harness contacts. If available, use dielectric grease on the contacts as well.
