Motor Pulldown Question (yes, another one)

Ok guys, I DID SEARCH , and all I found was topics relating to hatches not unlatching or the motor wouldn't pull it down, or kept running. This is not my problem.

My problem is this:

I bought the car, and the hatch pulldown assembley was completely dissassembled. A bungee cord was holding the hatch shut. I bought a used pulldown assembley from a person. I installed it and the latch is stuck in the down position. The hatch itself will not latch. Any ideas on what might be the problem??

Thanks guys an gals.

Robert

You may have the wrong motor/latch as compred to the strike thats on the declid... there is 2 different styles...
Top is older (on my 87), lower is newer style (on my 91). When they changed is beyond me. The strikes (pictured) are interchangable on the decklids w/o mods though...

Well, the latch mechanism came from a 1989 IROC and my car is a 1989 IROC as well. I don't see how there could be a difference. It looks just like the one that was in it.

Make sure its all lining up.

If it is.. you should be able to have it latch even though it's all the way down. Just close it..."hard" Having it latched would make it able to pop and rise up too I think. Does on mine from what I remember at least.

Mine just went out for no reason about 5 minutes ago. Its an 88 IROC Z. Motor stuck in the down position, hatch stuck doing nothing even if I press real hard.

The problem is that the motor thinks the hatch is already closed, so it cant pull the hatch down. Since the hatch isnt actually latched in the motor, the motor wont release it.

Just stick a pen in the motor(from the top), I can't remember exactly where, but just push lightly down on one of the things and the motor will return to the open position.

I can't be bothered to go out and look, but its incredibly simple, so I don't think thats necessary anyway.

thanks guys, but i found out the problem. first off there was no fuse in the acc power fuse place. that fixed it. then, i had the latch tightened too far down, so when the motor pulled it down, it wouldn't shut off. so i popped the hatch, loosened up the bolts, shut the hatch, let the motor stop running and tightened up the bolts. that was it.

thanks guys for all of your suggestions
