Thirdgens and keyless entry systems
I am interested in getting a keyless entry system for my car, I wouldn't like a third party system though but what I am wondering is if there are any OEM systems from GM made for third generation firebirds or camaros?
I'm having trouble finding any.

Heck I'm even starting to wonder if they exist. All I got that tells me this is an RPO code, AX3.

If that was an option, I'm sure it as probably a very expensive option back when these cars were made. So I really don't think you'll find an OEM one for thirdgen cars. I'd love to get a keyless entry, but I have no power locks.

Well the style certainly fitted the car I think, would a 4th gen keyless entry system from say a '93 modek fit on a 3rd gen?

Well this looks rather old and outdated and its for a fourth gen.

I've never heard of our cars coming with factory remote systems, and even if they did good luck finding someone that took the time to remove the unit and save the remote. You're going to have to get a 4th gen one (still, it's a pain to rip it all out).

jegs unit
I know you said you are looking to a factory unit but here is one from JEGS even though it is on backorder (canceled my order last week). It has the door lock actuators with it if you dont have power locks. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...95&prmenbr=361

i got a gm system in mine...
I have an 89 Firebird. I bought the car a year ago and it had keyless entry. There are only 2 buttons. button one unlocks the doors, and to get them to lock you press it again. Button two pops the hatch. It is not aftermarket. It was a GM remote so I assume its factory. And the thing looks OLD. I would guess it was from late 80s early 90s. However i do not know the history of my car. I jsut know EVERYONE is surprised I have a remote for my car.

Honestly I have no clue. I guess I am lucky mine still works. Funny story how it started working, my car got hit from behind and poof the remote works again. I need to know where i can find another remote or sticker for it. the one on mine is peeling and lots of it has flaked off. Do they still make replacements? What about GM?

4th gen Keyless Entry in my 84 ------->
-max-
That's SOOOOOoooooooo Funny !! I used exactly the same system in my 84 Berlinetta. I used that system because it had the bow tie on the remote rather than the 98 & up remote.
While I was at it I also connected the "switched ground" for the rear hatch light into the set-up so when the interior lights are on the hatch-back light also comes on. It works great because I can open the hatch and turn on the lights without even touching the car ! In the summer time ( when the struts are hot ) the hatch will even open itself cause they are new !
The only drawback to that installation is that I can't open the driver door with one press and both doors with 2 presses of the button like it works in the 4th gens. My doors both unlock at the first push of the button.
You can find the remotes used for about $15 and the recievers for about $25 if you look around for awhile. The best way to buy the 'TSR' keyless transmitter is to pull it from behind the passenger side kick panel of a 4th gen at a bone yard.......... that way you can get the plug and wiring pigtails at the same time. any remote can be re-programmed to that transmitter.

I found some door lock solenoids pulled from a 93 Z, will these work with my 91 and with a keyless entry/alarm system?

What are the part numbers for this mod?
Is it the same module as used in other late model GMs, other than 4th gens?

I can just about read the Part number on the remote transmitter:
10239647
I also got the number for the receiver
10273333
My brothers 91 GMC Typhoon used the same TSR system......... I also 'custom' installed this keyless entry into my S10 Blazer. But the remote I used has the picture of a truck hatch rather than a car hatch. ( It still has a BowTie !!! ) So; I assume that this was one of the first Keyless systems installed in GM GM Car's & Trucks around 91-96.

Thanks for the part numbers. The bowtie remote is cool. If I add this system to my existing alarm, I'll have two extra channels to control accesories. I dont mind two remotes. Sweet

John in RI is ahead of me here I used a 95 z28 setup for mine but I am pretty sure GM probably kept all the modules the same until the new obd2 came out the 98 and up are different

I was only quick with the answers 'cause I just went thru this system with my brother....... his keyless is not working right now.
When I put the keyless set-up in my Berlinetta I 'mapped' the wiring ahead of time to make installation easier for me. I just took a picture of this 'map' that shows the correlation from the connectors & wiring on the 95 keyless entry system to the wiring inside my Berlinetta. I'm posting it here to make it easy for everyone to install this set-up in thier thirdGen F-body.
The Cargo Light modification will be different for all you guys with "regular" Camaro's or Firebirds. You do not have a PURPLE wire to your courtesy lights - That's a Berlinetta specific wire !!!!!
P.S. I'm pretty sure that the switched ground wire to the courtesy lights in a "regular" F-body is the WHITE wire !
