Esc Help!
Hi i just got my first third gen 1992 camaro rs 305 tbi.
i have ben having trouble with my engine and it is idleing preaty good but i have ben getting codes that i have pulled out of my commputer and this is what i get.
code 23 (manifold air temp sensor)
code 43 (electronic spark control) i do not know where this is located.
I can also here that my engine is misfireing and dose not like to idle realy good for the first 10 min when fired up.
what could make my engine misfire like this and could the esc be to blame?
sory if dont sound clear or what i dont know what im talking about, im just 16 and i am still learnig about these computer controled cars and engine.

On your car the code 23 = Intake Air Temperature (IAT) and not Manifold Air Temperature (MAT). The Electronic Spark Control (ESC) module is located behind the fuel pump relay and the coolant fan relay on the driver side firewall. There are several reasons for your engine to misfire but these two codes are not neccessarily a factor in that.
Have you had a good tune-up done on the car since you got it. Spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil change, PCV valve, fuel filter, distributor cap & rotor and stuff like that.

as Trickster said, there are other things that can cause a miss, the code 43 won't cause a missfire, but i must disagree with him on the code 23, (sorry Trickster) it could cause a miss if the sensor is failing, a bad connection or unplugged, it would cause the ECM to think the incoming air is really cold & richen up the fuel to the point of missfire.
you said you just did a tuneup on it, was it missing before the tuneup? or did it start after the tuneup?
on the code 43, the first thing i would check is the knock sensor, if you get under the car & look between the starter & the crossmember you should see it screwed into the side of the block.
with time the connector starts falling apart & can come unplugged or have a bad connection. it can also get damaged when the starter gets replaced as can the sensor itself.

well its started to missfire before i did the tune up and i did not look at the knock sensor ill look at it today and test it out by hitting right near it with a light hammer and listin for engine rpm change.
for the mat problem is that located in the air cleaner?
