Ok, I will be using a full compliment of Autometer Ultra Lite gauges in my 88 camaro. I will use the 5 inch 200 MPH electric speedo and have a question/problem. The car is a 5 speed, and has a speedo cable. The trans is a WC T5 out of a 92 Z28. For now, I have the cable going into the tranny and it fits with no problem. I do know however, that the 92 tranny is designed for VSS, and there should be a box that goes into the trans hole with wires coming out that go to the computer/gauge. I want to buy the autometer gauge that has the ability to calibrate itself as you are driving. This will make up for some unknown variables such as what tooth count on the speedo gear that is in the extension housing of the trans, the tooth count on the end of the speedo cable(that goes into the trans) and the fact that I will be running either a 3.73 or 4.10/4.11 in the rear end. Since this is an electric gauge, and requires a sender, should I pick up a VSS box from a newer model f body and put it in instead? Because the gauge is electric, I don't hink that I can use the factory speedo cable at all? Anybody have any insight on this? Thanks, Paul Moore

 

The calibration process for it is quite crude, measure out a 2 mile distance, press the button, drive exactly 2 miles then push the button again, how accurate your speedometer is depends on how well you mark off exactly 2 miles.

Get the autometer sender made for it, put the cable drive plug from an earlier t5 into your 92 T5 and hookup the autometer sending unit and use the appropriate speedometer gears for your ratio / tires.

If you are dead set on not touching the gears you should be able to use an SGI-5 for additional calibration i believe.
