I have an 83 Z28 so there is no Lights On warning chime when you turn off the ignition and the lights are on. My ideas is to get a 12V buzzer/chime and connect the positive side of the chime to the lights and the negative side to the ignition. So if the lights are on and the ignition off the chime will sound. Will this work?

Ignition doesn't go the ground when off, it's open (indeterminate).

 

Based on the fact that I didn't get any response I did some testing and it seems to work. I am using one of the IGN blade slots in the fuse block to connect the negative side of the chime and a tap into the INST (5 amp) green wire for Lights (positive side of chime). So whether the ignition is open or ground it seems to work. lights on, ignition off, chime on.
