HELP!! my ign is being gay

Well i have a problem.... i big annoying one.
My car has had a switch for the starter in it for over a year since i bought it, to give you background.

the problem is this....: i get in the car and turn the key( all power comes on and i hear the FP like normal) hit the starter switch and i hear the starter solenoid click then all power cuts out. Turn the key off then on and no pwer still. I wait for a lil while in frustration trying to check fuses and everything and try the key again and power comes back.

This started after i installed my H/U( i didnt rig anything just so you know). and it happens randomly, like i go to get gas, fill up, then turn the key and hit the switch and the problem shows itself.

also, all my fuses are fine except for the ACC fuse which blows instantly( i dont know if it was doin this b4 becasue i just recently put a fuse in there)
if you need a better description i am will to oblige.

oh okay...... the ign in the column is back for acc forward for run nad all the way forward for start, you know... like if i want to listen to mah radio only id put the key all teh way back( althouugh the lock to keep it back is messed because the car was broken into b4 i bought it and the column got f-ed up)

i didnt wire the switch up but i don know it needs to be replaced. Its been in the car since i bought it over a year ago w/o problems except once or twice that it got stuck on and the car kept trying to turn over.

i think the switch is going bad but i have no idea what is going on because when the problem happens i lose all power in mah car and my h/u resets due to no power. although if i turn the headlights on they still have power..

I think I get what you're saying. My cutlass used to do the same thing. Have you tried messing with the battery connections? Sometimes if I would mess with the ground (wiggle it or something) all of the power would be restored. Do you have the screw in battery cables or the ones that attach to the posts? The screw in ones seem kinda screwy if there is any corrosion at all. If it's anything other than that I have no clue. It was always fun when I'd want to leave work and all of the electrics would light up and then *click* turn the ignition and everything would go dead. I think it blew the fuse a couple of times but I put in a higher amperage fuse (i know that's bad) but as long as i wiggled the ground terminal it would get power back. Of course it would click off a couple more times but would eventually start.

i just had to remove both the terminals when i installed my new amp. i have the screw in side terminals and both seemed okay and both were tight.

First thing I would check would be my battery connections - especially the ground. I have experienced exactly what you are describing before and cleaning and verifying the cables solved the problem. The ground is especially important here. You should check it both at the battery and at the chassis...

It could be in the weird jury rigged start button you describe... I does sound like somthing is not properly grounding.

Good Luck!
