Dimmer Assembly

Hey. I've researched and can't figure it out. Most of you know about taking the trim off around the guages and that the first thing you have to do is get that dimmer **** out. well i was working with mine the other day and the whole dimmer assembly came loose. I know there is a small round piece that the dimmer **** slides into and it holds the assembly to the dashboard. Ive tried every way and i cant attach that piece back to the assembly. It looks like it just screws into it but it just doesnt want to. Anyone know how its supposed to work?

I think I did the same thing. There is a little plastic screw thing that goes around the pull out metal rod, which is the ONLY thing that holds the dimmer in place. If you mess with that dimmer too much and it moves in any direction too much, the plastic screw will break, and, well, you're pretty much screwed. I just bought a new dimmer from Radio Shack, and two LED switches to control the headlights. I hated that pull out dimmer/headlight switch thing anyway. It was ugly, especially when the healights were on.

Crappy picture of what causes the broken dimmer:
