Alternator hook up for rear mount battery

I am getting ready to move my battery to the rear of the car. I noticed the charging wire for the alternator runs straight to the battery.

Can I : Run a wire fronm the battery post on the starter, up to a terminal mounted on the inner fenderwell, then connect the alt wire to this?

Or, do I need to run a wire all the way back to the battery?

I believe you can run it to a terminal. When you do the rear mounted battery it is a good idea to use a remote silenoid(spelling). From there you should be able to hook up your alt power lead for the battery. At least I think.

I was going to use a remote silonoid, but have heard that it is not a good idea with a mini starter. Is this true?

Well If you want to do it correctly you Will Place a Remote Starter Solenoid in the rear next to the battery (Like this one) and wire it similar to below. The main advantage is that the large 1/0 Guage Wire can be ran Under the car and will only have power while cranking also you can't put circut protection on the Starter wire because it draws so many amps and hooking you alt charge cable there won't have any protection. The 8Guage Wire can be ran throught the interior.

Also if you hook up the field sensing wire from the alt to the distribution block in the pic where it says 14.2 it will charge the battery and will mantain 14.2 Volts at that junction. So the rest of the car gets the proper voltage it requires. For more info on this type of stuff check these out.

Also to get a Good deal on 1/0Guage or 2Guage Wire go to your local Welding store and by there Ground cable for a Mig in the Guage you want. it is $4-$5 cheaper than almost anywhere else

People with rear mount batterys. Where did you run the cable?
I was looking under, and was conserned about the cable being close to the exhaust.

Not that I know of. I've been using one with my mini starter for almost 3 years now.
