Aftermarket tach ?
I have an 83 firebird w/cable style speedo , I've heard that an aftermarket tach is more acurate than the stock tach , so my ? is what kind of tach do I need , can I use an electric tach , and if so how do I install it ?

I think all aftermarket tachometers are electronic, but I may be mistaken. If you decide to get one, I would highly recommend a name-brand company, such as Autometer. The only thing you have to do to install them is to decide on a place to mount it, then mount it, and then wire it up, it's as simple as that. Most aftermarket tachs have 4 wires to hook up, and they are:
12V lighting
12V ignition
Ground
Tach signal
You can almost always tap into 12V lighting and 12V ignition sources from your fuse box, the tach signal will come from your ignition coil, and just use a good known ground (or you can make your own, of course). Instructions should be included with whatever tach you decide on, and should give you most of the information you need to hook it up.
Here's mine, just for reference (bad pic though):

Hope this helps.
