Guage fuse blows

previous owner did 350 swap on 86 irocz

But the guages arent working

I checked the fuse and there wasnt a fuse!

I put the number 10 fuse in and the tach worked
but the oil pressure and water temp arent working properly.

I drove the car for a few minutes and the fuse blew.
Not sure how to proceed, I am in the process of taking
the guage cluster out.

Other problems
speedo cable broke
wipers dont shut off once turned on.

after you read this post, go to the store and buy a fire extingusher. It sounds like you may need one shortly. If a fuse blows it is because there is a serious overload onit or a wire connect to it is shorting out to ground somewhere. Now you say that oil pressure and water temp gauges arent working either. I would check the sensor on the drivers head and see if it is connected. The wire may have been burnt off and is grounding out on the header pipe. Does the cluster lights come on at all? I would start looking around for a really $hitty wiring job. Look at the connector on the wiper motor and see what it looks like. Look under the dash for a stuff that just dont look right. THere has to be a wire(s) somewhere that is shorting out that fuse.

Fire extinguisher havent thought about that

I dont get to many lights comin at start up
the choke light did stay on

I checked the wire going to the choke while the engine
was running no power at the lead. choke is dead

Theres 2 sensors one for the oil and water
looks like the water sensor is in front and the oil is
back by the distributor that one doesnt have a wire
coming from it, I think its hangin down behind the engine.

As of now have to wait to work on the car for awhile
getting really cold again and snow is in the forcast

I wont be driving it until I get these problems fixed
thanks
for the advice
I might of bit off more then I could chew with this car.

Hello HorseflyDF,
Seeing that you have a choke light, you obviously have an early model car with a carburated engine. If you would please tell us the year & make of your car I might be able to give you some ideas about your problem.

Thats encouraging to here and I am looking
forward to fixing the problems if I can.

I called a performance shop and they said to troubleshoot
electrical is 70 dollars an hour minimum.

I left my number and they never called me back
So I said in this case perhaps they left it up
to me to fix.

I told my son that Im not gonna punk out
just yet.

He asked what does that mean ?
I said I wont give up trying to fix the car myself just yet.
Dont give in unless you blow the car up.

this may be my new motto

If they shut off when you turn the car off (wiper switch in off position) and don't come back on when you turn car back on (wiper switch still in off position), probably the park switch in wiper motor cover (ask me how I know).

wipers

As far as the wipers go
They turn on but the delay isnt working
and they dont shut off unless
the car is turned off
I put the wipers in the off position and they keep
on going like the energizer rabbit

Ive read this is common problem on Fbody

2 dollars plus tip
thats resonable

I looked under the dash many times and removed the
stuff that was in the way mainly the alarm harness

I havent been able to locate the problem.

There are so many wires that are hooked up
with the guage fuse its not funny.

I saw a diamgram where they spider
out all over to different sensors etc..

Considering I am only a nut and bolt guy
this will probably be a long shot to fix.

I wired up the electric choke but its on the guage fuse
and when it blew so did my power to the choke.
Have to find another circuit and I need to learn how
to wire up a relay and fuse for it.
