cold weather now it wont start
I just ha d a realy bad ice storm. My car just sat in my driveway through it. This morning i tried to start it, and it doesnt start. Just clicks. plenty of power in battery - the juice is there. Just clicks once. I turn the key once and it clicks - no more. doesnt try to turn over. I think something is frozen. I hit the starter several times and everything. When i turn key, the starter doesnt engage onto the flexplate. It remains in the same position. any suggestions???

cancel that...... we hooked up the hot water line to the hose and doused it. that didnt work. so we pulled out the torches and heated it up. barly engaged but turned over. Then really loud wrapping sound from engine not a tick tick tivk, it was more like a cylender or something. Hitting hard but hitting something soft. let it warm up and revved it up. sound went away. I think it might be time for a rebuild seen as how engine has 175K on it
The click, was your starter engaging but being frozen stuck which you've already fixed by heating it up.
But as for the the wrapping noise is more likely the oil being thick like molasses because it was so cold out and not coating everything as quickly as it should have.
I get that noise every time I drain and refill the oil during an oil change for about 1-5seconds after refilling and starting it as the oil gets pushed up all over everything again. The noise I think comes from the crank because I had the bearings go on the crank and I know that sound well.
