Car just shuts off

When iam driving the car will suddenly turn off, everything stops the brake stiffins and the check engine light comes on. Now what seems to happen is when i accelerate and then coast is when it shuts off when iam driving, but it does shut off when idling. I took it to a shop and the distributer was broke and the vacuum lines were busted, and the fuel system needed to be cleaned out..so $600 later i get it and it still shuts down. So now it makes me think that it has to do with the ecm. Would disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it
do the trick(resetting) or whould i have to replace the ecm all
togeather, or is it something more?
Thanks

(Oh yeah it has all new vacuum lines, distributer, sensors, and just did a tuneup)
Car is a 1992 RS 305 TBI
Edit-Idles at low rpms and shuts off.

Good to hear that you have the distributor and vacuum lines all sorted out.

Replacing the ECM would probably be unnecessary, and a waste of time/money. There is programming in the ECM that is supposed to prevent closed throttle stalling on decel. This relies on the IAC being able to do its job, and the TPS and throttle minimum air position being correctly set. Perform a search on how to do this. There are lots of threads on this site that outline the procedure.

Is the electrical cutting out at the same time too? Had this happen on my dads bonneville where everthing including electrical would cut out while driving. Sometimes a waring (starts to idle low) sometimes just just cut out instatly. Car would then restart after we pulled over. Turned out to be a bad positive battery cable.

If its just the engine cutting out had this happen on my moms lumina, think its the same ecm as some thirdgen? But its was a bad ecm.

May not be for you, but some things to check.

Well I i thought it might be the ACM(air control module) so i changed that out and replaced the battery and i think that might have solved it, but iam still wondering if my car idles at too low of rpm. Right now it idles alittle below 1000 rpms, seems alittle low but iam not sure.

edit: i changed out the ICM(ignition control module) sorry so many modules.

My turn started shutting off when I drove it and I just raised idling speed and everything works fine. I do have the V6 but my manual says the engine idles at 800rpm stock and I bumped it up to 1000rpm.

tachs never seem to be accurate so it may actually be a true 1000rpm's. Mines was off by about 300rpm's.
