intermittent wiper..please help
Hello all,
I have a 1989 firebird. I need some help. My intermittent wiper function is not working, (when I turn on the intermittent function the wipers operate in slow mode, no matter where I have the setting at) It stop working once I replaced the wiper/turn signal/cruise control level. So I next replaced the wiper motor cover which is the controller. Still no intermittent function After looking at the turn signal level I have found that the wiper function is mechanical There is metal rod in the column, from what I see moves down or up to turn on the wiper, but I have no idea how this is happening. I have no idea how the wiper motor controller gets the signal for intermittent or even the signal for slow or fast. Can someone please help me out to troubleshoot this problem?
Thanks in Advance
Brad

you are correct about that, but when you install the turn signal arm, there is a metal rod that attaches the turn signal arm, so when you twist ( turn on ) the wipers doesnt it move that arm?
Where exactly is the wiper switch located?

ok guys or gals..
please dont hate me for posting this numerous times, guess I should have re-posted my last question on this. I dont understand why this would quit just by changing out the lever.
however. I have few more questions on this.
What color wire pertain to the intermittent?
What color for low?
What color for high?
What color for mist?
I have ohmed out the wires from the switch to the wiper motor connnection and all is good. I am betting that for the intermittent to work it works on resistance a variable resistor, what color wires should I try to see. I wish I had a schematic of this switch, this would make my trouble shooting much easier.
Thanks again for all the help today, I have made lots of progress on this.

From Helms inc., right now the manual for the 89 firebird is out of stock and they are selling their re-prints for $149.00 + shipping. If they were in stock they would be $30.00 + shipping since Helms is having a big sale to clear out their inventory right now.

Update 30 Mar 2005..
Still need help.
I replace the motor cover, I replaced the turn signal wiper switch and I still have NO intermittent wiper. No matter where I have the intermittent switch selected (slow or fast) the wipers always work on LOW speed. On High speed, I remove the control cover and the wipers/ motor move faster. I have no idea what to do or what to check next. I would like a real wiring schematic. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Please help my injured bird!!!
Thanks
Brad

Update:
I fixed the problem....yea
Thanks to Trickster for sending me the schematic. I found and fixed the problem. The problem was is that the Green Wire always had 12V on it. I hand traced the wire and found that it was spliced the tan/white wire (alt sensor/regulator) wire. I have no idea why I spliced this wire. So now I have a brand new turn signal switch and a brand new turn signal arm. I really feel stupid because I have no idea why I did this...anyway thanks to trickster and the right tools (the correct schematic) I now have intermittent wipers. If anybody need a turn signal switch and or a turn signal arm controller email me.
I am so happy...need to buy the correct service manual
