Yet another VATS problem

First of all I have done a search and looked at the posts which seemed similar trying to fix my problem.

Well Ive been having problem with the VATS system for a while now, specifically the "security" light staying on and me having to wait while the system is in shut down mode. 2 days ago I did the VATS bypass with a resistor trick down under the dash. It worked fine the day I did it. Today I went to start my car and the problem reappeared! The security light stayed on and no turnover. Being less than a half mile from school I walked to school. When I arrived home later I went to start the car and it worked.

Frusturated I decided to do the start enable relay trick and took the relay cap off and just closed the loop with a wire.
Now Im hoping this will solve my problem, but the relay seems to not be the problem because even with nothing connected on the relay at all, the security light goes out, and my problem when the security light does not go out.

The temp was also cold this morning, around 30 degrees, but temperature wouldnt affect the resistance of a resister, would it? I measured my pellet at .885Kohms, and the closest resister i could find was 1KOhms at 1 watt, which I measured at .995KOhms. I used this resister for the bypass. What is the tolerance of the resistance measurement, and cold the cold throw it off a little?

I just dont know what else to do, besides burning a new chip, which i cant do. If you guys could help i would greatly appreciate it.

temperature does have an effect on resistance, the colder it is, the higher the resistance goes.
im kind of suprised that resister worked to start with as i think 10% high or low is tolerance for what the vats module is looking for.
10% high of 885 is 89 ohms which comes out to 974 ohms max. you want to be as close as you can get.
you should be able to find the right size resister at an electronics supply. if they don't have 1 that is right, you can wire up 2 or more in series to get to the right resistance. you don't need a 1 watt resister, 1/4 watt resisters will work fine.

alright ive got 3 resisters now, a 680ohm, and 2 100 ohm. This should be .880Kohms, correct. I can figure out how to wire them up tough. I tried putting them all together and doing it but its not working that way.

You have to solder them together end-to-end and them connect the wires on each end. The resistances will add. I did this trick to my 89 and it worked like a charm.

Get a 1K ohm potentiometer and set it to the exact value of the pellet. I did one for a friend and when it got hot the car would not start. The VATS decoder module has some swing, but you are too far off which will result in intermittent operation.
