1990-1992 camaro guage cluster questions
i am picking up a 1990 rs from a buddy for cheap. it has a blown up 3.1 and i am going to shove all the stuff i have in my car in the new car. it has the newer style guages in it. are the guages hooked into the ecm or are the directly plugged into each thing. like oil pressure guage into the oil pressure sending unit, water temp to the water temp sender, gas to the tank, speedo to the tranny? if so, i guess i just keep those wires all seperate and plug them up to a sender? or is it plugged up into the ecm and i have to keep the ecm? it is a carbed 310 with a built 700r4 that is going in. what do i have to do to get the guages to work?

I swapped in a '90 dash into my '82 and I don't have an ECM. The only gauge that could have problems is the speedo. Although I have heard of people wiring the sender directly to the speedo and it working. For me, I bought a Dakota Digital box to alter the speedo signal so it would work since at the time I did the swap that was what people on here said to do. At least I can recalibrate the speedo at will now.

I think it should. Like I said though some people have claimed that it works fine wiring the sensor to the speedo. I'd probably try that first and see if it works. Hopefully you can search back like 3 years or so ago. That is when I did it, and I remember people talking about the Cyberdyne box then (maybe it has come up since then). I don't remember what the feeling was on it. But from reading old posts I was under the impression that the pulse per mile output of the sensor didn't match the pulse per mile the speedo read. Sorry, I am kinda doing a brain dump of all I remember on the subject so I am all over the place.

I have a carbed motor in my 91 and the stock gauges work fine. I still have the ecm in the car with stock connections. All I did was eliminate the fuel injection wires, oxygen sensor, map sensor, and all that. For the oil pressure use the stock plug and the same for the trans too. Sorry to cut it short but im at school
