Fuel Pump Wiring

I know i've seen this in another thread, but my search turned nothing up. where do the wires run to the fuel pump in the tank? I went to carb with a mechanical fuel pump, but havn't dropped the tank yet. I need to drain the tank, and figured i'd hotwire the electric pump to drain it. Any other easier ways or locations of the wires to bug into? thanks

Well if you haven't removed the wiring for the fuel pump relay, you can apply 12 volts DC (+) to pin "A" of the connector and a good ground to run the fuel pump to empty the tank.

The The Relay for the fuel pump is long gone, but i don't remember if the wires have been removed yet. If I go that route, where do I need to hook up a 'good ground'. If the wires by the firewall are already gone, i'll have to bug into the wires near the tank. Do these run under the car or under the carpet?

You can just ground it to the car frame or the engine it self.
The wires run from the connector behind the rear seat along the drivers side of the car underneath the carpet and door sill.

Fuel that has a little age to it will be some what of a darker color where it starts to break down. It probably also has some rust in it.

Yeah, that was a joke. The fuel is like 3+ years old, I never even thought about it when I did my swap until I couldn't start it this spring. I can't believe I even got it running last year. Does fuel like that mess up the carb? I remember hearing something about fuel varnishing parts of the carb or something when I was younger.

Yes fuel tends to leave a varnish in the carburator and other components over a period of time. When I was running a carb in my 85 Z28 I would take and spray some carb cleaner in the carb about once every two months to sort of clean it out some. It doesn't actually mess up the carb per se, but over a period of time it will start to build up and restrict the flow of fuel in the lines and jets on a carb and fuel injectors.

Fuel gauge sender diagram needed.

My fuel gauge is now reading way past full. I assume the sender wiring is screwed up somewhere. There are 3 wires coming out of the sender. Black=ground Pink=sender to gauge Question is, where does the tan wire go?

Black = Ground

Tan = 12 volts - 12 Volt Fuel Pump Source

Red = 5.3 volts - Fuel Gauge Voltage will vary with level
