high beam flashing?
I was wondering if it would be possible to add high beam flashing to our cars, I mean toyotas do it.
Imagine you are driving, with your parklights and maybe foglights on, the popup lights are down, you are driving behind some ******* and want to let him know you ar annoyed at him, or to let him know you are now going to pass him, you pull back on the high beam switch and the lamps popup and the highbeams flash on and the lamps drop down again.
Also it would be fun if you could wire it so that when you do that a laser cannon fires instead of the high beams and vaporizes the offending car in front but I don't think stock alternators could cope with the stress....

Lol, lasers would be great! The alternator can't handle it, but I'm sure a Mr. Fusion would be able to. But seriously, I wouldn't be sure that the motor could handle too many rapid on/off switches like that.

I suppose it should be possible to wire up some auxiliary spotlights behind the grilles somewhere. Hopefully more knowledgeable people can provide some advice?

Most aftermarket off-road light systems come complete, w/ harnesses and switches...just don't rig it together with wires and switches that aren't compatable, ie. not the correct load. Unless you like car fires, that is.
I'm actually planning on doing this myself, where my factory driving lights are at. I drive on dark, country roads quite often where there's like .1 person per mile. I hate deer that try to commit suicide by jumping in front of me.

You flash people when you're about to pass them? If you do that around here they'll just speed up... or slam on their brakes.

In most places in the US, it is illegal to drive with parking lights on. That's why they are called parking lights. Also, it is illegal to drive with the driving lights on that close to someone. Driving lights are to be used EXACTLY like high beams!

No I said DRIVING LIGHTS. Those auxiliary lights down low in the front. The reason is that they shine straight ahead, just like high beams, and blind people. Your regular head lights have the right light mostly straight ahead and the drivers side is slightly down and toward the center of your lane.
Fog lights are also to be used just like high beams. Slot of states have height laws on your head lights i.e.; 12"-24". A lot of raised trucks get tickets for this reason. Ricers get tickets all the time for neon and LEDs. A lot of cops won't write you for this stuff unless you are just barely bein bad, you know who you are, and they use it as an excuse to stop you and mess with you. Been a cop, been there done that! Next time your out cruising and run across a cop, just stop and ask about all this stuff.

The driving lights can't simply be turned off without turning off your headlights. They, and the gauge cluster lights, turn on before the headlights do. The only time they're off with the headlights on is when the highbeams are on. And, Katman, the headlight height limit for Kansas is 48 inches, and uptight California mandates 42 inches. Also, lights that are above that height (considered auxilary off-road lights) are not illegal unto themselves. What is illegal in some states is for the lights to be uncovered on any public street or property.
Kansas law *which does not apply to any other state* says:
In addition, vehicles may be equipped with the following optional lights:
One amber or white running board courtesy light on each side,
Two side cowl or fender lamps emitting an amber or white light,
Two white spot lamps mounted on the front of the vehicle,
One or more white reverse lamps that are in operation only when the vehicle is moving in reverse,
Two white to amber fog lamps mounted on the front of the vehicle and used only in conjunction with the low beam headlamps,
Two white to amber auxiliary passing lamps mounted on the front of the vehicle,
Two white to amber auxiliary driving lamps mounted on the front of the vehicle.

The reason that r1cers and raised trucks get stopped by police for their neons and what not is simply because there's an ordinance against or restricting such lighting, not just to mess with them.
You are correct, though, that the driving lights ideally aim straight ahead.....all of 6 inches from the ground
The amber lenses on thirdgens were designed specifically to NOT blind other drivers, as if those sorry excuses for lights were even capable of it. All the laws here state that: No light in operation other than headlamps, spot lamps, auxiliary lamps, flashing turn signals, vehicular hazard warning lamps and school bus warning lamps, which projects a beam of light of an intensity greater than three hundred (300) candlepower shall be so directed that no part of the high intensity portion of the beam will strike the level of the roadway on which the vehicle stands at a distance of more than seventy-five (75) feet from the vehicle. Most other states are similar, if not identical. I hardly think our driving/fog lights qualify.Next time, do your homework before you go spouting off.

Thanks for the info! It's been a long time since I looked up specs! In Roeland Park, Overland Park, Mission, Prarrie Village, Fairway, Lenexa, Shawnee, Meriam, KCK, Olathe, Tonganoxie, and others around the metro they WILL right you up for driving lights on if they want to. I work on there patrol cars and hang with a lot of them. Why do you people say the driving lights on our cars are bad and won't light up the tail pipes. I get blinded all the time in my Tahoe. It's especially bad on lowered cars because the kits lower the rear more then the fronts and people don't get the headlights adjusted to compensate.
do you live in a hilly area? no amount of adjusting can stop you from getting blinded when your car is facing down and the other car is facing up. It's going to happen. Also, a lot of aftermarket lights are brighter.. so either way, your'e going to get some light in your eyes.
If you don't like it, don't drive at night, or get some good nighttime driving glasses.
Don't make excuses
