Alternator wiring, please help

I've searched the posts but I'm still not sure. I have an 83 Z28 and I just installed a GMPP serpentine kit (based on 91-92 Camaro). My cars harness has a large red wire and a small black wire. The kits connector (pn PT1742) has 4 wires marked S F L P . What do I connect and what gets capped off?

The red wire from the original harness goes to the "S" terminal.

The other wire depends on the application:

Option (1):
If you have a no charge light, or a choke light, then that wire goes to the "L" terminal. If not, then it goes to the "I" terminal.

Option (2):
The "I" terminal is probably labeled as "F" on the adapter plug. Before you hook it up, you need to look at the terminals on the alternator regulator. They should be labeled right by the regulator plug. You need an alternator with a regulator plug labeled "PLIS". If your regulator is labeled "PLFS", then you might have a problem. F terminal regulators sometimes don't like to be hooked up to voltage. When I say they don't like it, I don't mean it like it doesn't work. I mean it like "ZZT...dead alternator".

One other possibility. That terminal could be labeled PLI/FS or PLF/IS. If the terminal is labeled with both an "F" and an "I", it should be a univeral regulator, and hook right up.

Thanks, I'll go look...Yep, F & I are there. No charge light on my car, just a gauge.
