Fuel Level Gauge Wiring Yes Did A Search
Fuel Level Gauge Wiring Yes Did A Search
Now my question is not how to wire my fuel level gauge, my question is this, i know there are 3 wires that come from the sending unit. But what do those 3 wires go to? One goes to ground (what color, guessing blk or brown) one goes to the ignition (guessing red or pink) one goes to the sender in teh fuel tank (no idea what color) so i need help with that. On the other note, after doing my own wiring job (swapped from FI to carb a long time ago and just got rid of taking all the wires that i no longer need out) so i cliped all those 3 wires and only have a little bit of them left still coming through behind the rear seats. So on the gauge i need to connect the ground one to the gauge, the sending one to the gauge, and connect the gauge to a 12 volt source? Do i have this all figured out right? But now my question is htis? How will my sender work if its no longer getting any power from teh ignition? Or do i have to re wire that wire to a 12 volt source as well and also tap my fuel level gauge onto a 12 volt source or does the tank not need a 12 volt source at all? Hope thats not too confusing, thx in advance fellas

This is from a '92 service manual but it may help.
The hot lead coming from the guages fuse is pink and black. The lead from the sender is a purple wire. The ground, as you guessed, is a black wire.
My Hayne's manual lists the hot lead as either pink/black or pink/white, the ground as black, and the sender lead as pink.
The sending unit does need a direct 12V source. It needs to have its own ground though.
Edit: I just realized that we are talking about a Camaro, not a 'Bird. Their guage clusters are different, so my answer may be off as far as wire colors are concerned.

All you will need is the pink wire going from the fuel tank to the fuel gage and the black ground wire for it to work. The fuel sending unit works off OHM resistance and not a 12 volt power source. The 12 volt power source was for the fuel pump.
