where is the electronic ignition?
hey guys,
I'm 15 and am learning as much as I can about my thirdgen car, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I have a 1989 firebird, and I'm installing an auto-meter shiftlite tachometer. It says to hook the green wire to the electronic ignition and I honestly have no clue where it is, does anybody have a picture of what it looks like? or know where its located. I would really apprecciate it.
Thanks ALOT, Randy

The ignition module is in the distributor. You should just be able to make a connection to the factory tach wire to drive your tach.

I tried to trace the wire from the back of the tach but had no luck, I took the bottom of the dash off and still I have no visible evidence of which wire im actually cutting, and i dont want to mess anything up because it would void the warranty if installed inproperly, so unless anybody has installed one of these on a 1989 formula 350 and know what exact wire to cut into, im leaving this one the the pros but thanks for the help thats a good idea.

It's the one that connects to the "tach" terminal on the distributor. It should be a wire wire, I believe. Check the wiring diagrams in the tech articles.

i dont know where the tach terminal is and my dad has no idea because the wiring of the TPI is very complicated compared to a 70's muscle car. i called my uncle who works on cars for a living and he said theres a box right near the distributor and where the wire goes in is suppose to say TAC but there is nothing like that i can find. Where can i find the wiring diagrams so i can look this up? thanks

you're going to take that green tach wire and feed it thru a grommet in the firewall to the engine side.
find the engine coil (its connected to the center wire of the distributor)... on it is 2 plugs... 4 wires each.
one of the connectors has a fat pink wire, and a white wire..
connect the green tach wire to that white wire.
