DIY start retard?
I was told adding a cap to a pulsing dc circut will introduce a delay while it charges and discharges. Could this be used for a crude start retard or more likely there is a lot more to it than this.
I drew up a quick diagram to show if the concept would work how it might look.
Please feel free to call me an idiot if I am missing something painfully obvious.

Start retard...
Isn't that the rookie salesman at the dealership who has to go out and warm up cars in winter?
You may have an easier and more reliable product in a time delay relay wired through the starter circuit. P&B, Allen-Bradley, Omron, and many other manufacturers offer programmable relays that would well for your application.
If you want a really secure operation, you could program the relay to count inputs rather than energize after a time interval. That way, you would have to cycle the start switch three times, five times, or whatever you program before the output would energize, rather than just hold the switch for a programmed number of seconds.
