Firebird Headlight Switch Compatability

I recently came across a used headlight switch from a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. The guy who has it says that it will not work in my car because it has the straight, flat prongs on it. I was assuming that this was one of those parts that GM mass produced and put in all their cars the same. Am I wrong, or is this guy Crazy?

Your original switch may have a different contact arrangement. The headlight door control module needs to interface with the switch to operate properly. Worse yet, the dimmer on the Pontiac is a light-duty unit that requires a separate dimmer control module for the instrument lamps.
