Added cd player and lights messed up

Well i put in a cd player in my GTA. No store was open that had a GM02 connector so we wired it the old fashion way. We think we got everything hooked up right, turned the car on and everything worked fine. I went to turn my lights on before i left and when i did, the cd player would power off and lose all its memory. Now the cd player will play, but only the headlights and overhead interior light will come on. No fog lights, orange lights, side markers, tail lights, or guage lights. Also, the headlights will come up but when i turn the headlights off, the lights will go off, but they won't go down. We checked the fuses, nothing blown. Considered that the lights might have blown, but that doesnt explain why the lights wont go down. We checked to see if maybe we had wires mixed up, but even when we took both hot wires away from the cd player, the lights and headlights still wont work.

Any body have any ideas?

It sounds like a blown relay or the module may have overloaded and burned a bit and might need to be replaced?

you really want to get a wiring harness to correct the stereos functions too!....if the wires don't match up correctly that problem and continue and cause bigger problems!

I just had thus problem. Check your "tail" fuse again. That's the fuse for the tail-lights, inst. lights, and shifter light.

I had a bare wire touching the metal bar under the dash there. That tripped my tail fuse. Check that all your connections are good, and connected to the proper spot. You may have the Batt/Acc connection mixed up.

You probably mistakenly used the parking light wire as a ground. And the fuse probably really is blown; check again. I think it's called "TAIL" in the underdash fuse box.

Behind the radio, the correct ground wire is black; it's the only black wire in the harness.

There are two brown wires; one is the left rear speaker positive, the other is parking lights.

There is a gray wire; this is dash dimmer.

As long as your left-rear speaker is working properly, you know you got the correct brown wire for the speaker.

Be sure that the other brown wire, and the gray one, are taped up securely (and not connected together--people seem to like to do that for some reason).

As you probably know now, it would have been easier to do it the right way. If there's a Wal-Mart near you, some are open 24 hours and they have the harness.
