My ecm on a 1982 v6 camaro, has no "check engine" light at start... i went on through the procedures described on haynes manual, on how to retrieve failure codes, shorting the ALDL connector, but then i hear a...machine gun sound and there are no codes, still the "check engine" light is dead.

Any ideas? This is a wreck car i am working in,
