Question about charging system...

Few days ago I had to jumpstart the car. Just got a "Tick tick tick tick" when I tried starting it. Got it started, later that day went to start it again and the same thing. My friend lets me borrow the battery from his pickup, and i'm fine for a few days. Then it did the "tick tick tick tick" again, and on my way home from work (had to get a jumpstart at work), the headlights were sorta dim. I had noticed the tach was bouncing around and then stopped working completly. Got off the highway, and the whole car dies at a traffic light. No fan, no headlights, no tails, no hazards, nothing. Got it towed home, had the alternator checked at AutoZone and its fine. I dont THINK its the battery cause it would be sorta wierd that BOTH batterys suddenly crapped out. What could the problem be? How should I find the problem? Thanks,
-Chris

When you had you alternator tested at auto zone, did they test it on the car and show that it was charging the battery? Have you checked the cables for corrosion and the fusible link at the starter solenoid?
