Re: Possible Useful Link for ThirdGen Wiring -

I bought an 85 z28 that had been sitting in the woods for a few years and got it really cheap from an old man. the wiring harness under the dash has been spliced to hell and back. Im going with a 5.7 that i built but am worried about the wiring for the wipers and lights. Not worried about the gauges so much as I can go with aftermarket. I have downloaded the wiring diagrams for the car but some of the colors dont match up. Should I just rewire the whole thing or get an intact harness from a salvage yard?

Looking for the pinouts to this connector. It is located near the two ECM connectors on my 87 IROC. Can't seem to find a reference for it anywhere.

Unfortunately I had a sudden move and have not been able to get everything I have for my car that is still at my old house, including the printouts I'm referencing here

But, good news is I have an 89 shop manual(the GM one) so I will take a peak in that tonight and see if I can't get a good enough picture of the diagram and post it up here

I think I have exactly what you need, if anyone has access to both an 89' shop manual and a scanner before I do, it is page 8A-202-3, connector 207, it has the full pin out, I will post as soon as I can get a decent scan or picture of it

EDIT: Got it, let me know if you need a better picture

Re: Possible Useful Link for ThirdGen Wiring -

Thanks Caveman. That's what I needed. I had wires from pins C, E, and H that had cut ends of the harness, and I had no idea where they possibly went. Looks like the H is not used, since this engine is now in a 5-speed car. C and E go to ignition/service engine soon/tachometer, according to the pin-out, and I think I might now know what wire might have fed these, as I had a pink/black and black/wht wire with no home. I'm thinking they went to C/E. Still trying to track down how the fuel pump wire goes from the fuel pump relay to the chassis harness. According to one poster, it comes to C207 at pin L, but that appears to be part of the passkey circuit. Any idea how/where the three wires from the fuel pump harness make their way up to the dash area, and how they actually connect to the relay on the engine side?

Does your 87' have vats? Remember this schematic is for 89' it's close but it may not be 100%, it's possible that the other poster is right that instead of passkey it is your fuel pump wires

I have to agree. I came here to see if there were any diagrams I don't already have access to. Nothing here of any use but the chevy thunder link.
I think it's time this sticky gets unstuck.

Good catch.
FWIW, that used to be a legitimate link (back in 2007). I'm assuming that the url was abandoned and someone else took it over.

Re: Possible Useful Link for ThirdGen Wiring -

Painless makes the harness for that engine in a couple of different lengths. You can find them listed on ebay, through a number of distributors. Painless doesn't sell direct. I bought one for a 89 firebird (should have gotten. The extra 4 feet length), through jegs on ebay. While it wasn't exactly plug and play, it was damn close. I had to revise 3-4 wires and that was it.

Post some pictures and I will see if I can identify the plugs. It's helpful to see where they are going to, as well as the plug itself.

Re: Possible Useful Link for ThirdGen Wiring -

Looks like several of those go up to the power distribution block which is behind the fuse block on the left side, under the dash. The thick orange wire is a power wire, and that style of plug clips into the distribution block. I will pull out a harness and attempt to show you via pictures where some of the others may go.

I do have an 84 Z28 in the process of restoration, so should be able to ID all of the connections.

Re: Possible Useful Link for ThirdGen Wiring -

Small connectors with single wire:

Orange wire / Black plug goes to the fuse box ( could be front or back )
Pink wire / Blue plug goes to the back of the fuse box
Purple wire / Grey plug goes to the heavy gauge Purple Rear defroster wire on the body harness, plug should be behind the drivers kick panel.

Large connectors' with single wire:

Orange = Junction block behind driver kick panel
Pink = Junction block behind drivers kick panel

Large connector with Black wire and White Wire: Looks Like Rear Wiper connector to the body harness. ( again; plug should be behind the kick panel )

Large connector with Orange wires : not sure about that one. Looks like an 89 + power connection for power locks and windows. ( again - not sure ! )

Here's a pic of the fuse box lay-out:

Here's what the junction block looks like:
