toggle switch for cooling fan
Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me out for wiring a toggle switch for the cooling fan so I can switch it on at anytime. I think I have the idea but need a little assistance. I think the only thing that I have to do is to splice the wire that is on the cooling fan switch on the passenger side b/t #6 and #8 plugs to a ground? On my toggle switch I have 'power' 'load' and 'ground' Which ones do I hook up? Thank You.
The fact that the switch you selected has "power", "load", and "ground" markings implies that it is an illuminated switch. While it can be used for your application, using it will require that you either also install a relay to isolate the lamp from the load and reverse the switch logic, or not wire the ground so that the lamp does not operate. The internal resistance of the lamp may interfere with the fan relay's ability to release, since holding current on most of the relays used is relatively low. Moreover, the lamp would be illuminated whenever the fan relay is turned off, and extinguish when the fan relay is on. I suspect you would prefer operation to be just the opposite, so that the lamp would indicate when the fan is turned on.

Thank you for the help. I got the toggle switch installed and it is doing the thing that Vader has mentioned but only sometimes. Sometimes I can switch the fan on and off but then there are times when the light comes on in the 'off' position and the fan still stays on. Suppose I should just get a normal switch with just load and ground? If I dont ground the switch would the fan still go on and off?

This is from a 91 Camaro, but the wiring should be the same. The vehicles with two fans had one that was commanded by the ECM and the other was hard-wired to various switches such as A/C temp, etc...
You'd have to tie into both relays. Won't hurt a thing to have them both come on at the same time, but it will be a fairly large power-on surge for a moment.
