explaination of ignition wiring anyone?
explaination of ignition wiring anyone?
can someone just give me a basic explanation of basic wires used to start the car. as in ignition wire goes to dizzy.... bounces off starter... hits the alt... then to the battery.........know what i mean. i bought a car that is in great condition for an engine swap(putting in 406in88rs) but the wiring is ...welll ....spagettii(sp)
i'll go ahead and ask this here instead of making another post....i want to remove the wiring harness. coming out the pass is one BIGcoil of wires and a smaller one that spawns off of it that has MAF and sone other stuff that i've yet to figure out. this is the question that i cant seem to answer using the search option,, can i remove everysingle wiring coming out of the ecm?

Well...first, it's not too simple to explain the entire process of starting. The best way is probably to get a copy of the schematics and look them over. Everything you need can probably fit on about 3 pages. Second, we need to know what model/year/engine the car came with. If you have something specific that you're trying to accomplish, knowing that may help.

the starter solenoid gets its signal from a relay behind the drivers side kick panel. This engages the starter that get's its power directly from the battery through a 1/0 cable. There is a 10ga. wire or bigger from the stud on the alternator to the battery + terminal. From teh starter terminal you'll have several fusable links that feed power to the fuse block.

If you're getting rid of the entire harness and ECM, you can just pull it all out. Pull it through the pass. side fender and disconnect it at the firewall on the drivers side. With it all removed, run a battery cable to the starter and then a 10 gauge wire to terminals A4 and G5 of the firewall connector. These will power up the fuse block. Then you need to run another 10 ga. wire to the back of the alternator.
