okay fellas im about to upgrade my wire to 2 guage but i got some questions on it first....my positive alt. wire goes to a junction block next to the radiator but it runs into a positive link cable that is very very small....if i run bigger wire then put it into that fusible link isnt that just the same as running that small of wire through out since it will just be a bottle neck. whats the fusible link there for and do i really need it...also where does that shoe string looking ground connect to on the block? it seems like its a pain to reach. are there better ways to run the wire? oh and on the negitive terminal the is a small wire that ground to the car right next to the batt. is this wire really nessesary? thanks for any help

I believe the engine is connected to the frame via a small ground strap. I just ran an auxiliary ground wire directly from one of the alternator mounting bolts to the frame and then ran a similar wire from the battery (-) to the frame. As for the battery (+) junction block, the best idea is to replace all the wires in that area with a higher gauge run. If you want to leave the foot or so of smaller gauge wire, this is OK as long as you're running a stock alternator. If you're running a higher-current aftermarket version, you'll need to upgrade all of the wires all the way back to the battery and probably swap out all the fusible links for higher current pieces.
The fusible links are the last line of protection to prevent your car from catching fire should there be a dead short from one of the positive wires to the frame. It would be a really bad idea to bypass these. Keep all of them in place and only upgrade them if you need to.

then i will probably just leave all the wires stock until i get my new alternator in the next couple of week then just throw a circuit breaker on it if i have a 140 amp alt. will a 150 amp breaker do or will it be pointless since it can still short and draw all 140 amps? thanks
oh and does the alternator have to be run to that juntion block or can it be run straight to the batt. then a smaller wire from the batt. to the juntion block for all the acc. i have a top and side post batt. so room is not a problem.
