airbag retrofit?

I have a problem. I'm 16 and i've been saving up for a 3rd generation Camaro because of their status as the last of the affordable muscle cars, preferably an 1985-1987 IROC with a 305 and a maual. I finally convinced my parents to let me buy one, however, a fatal blow was struck to my plan today. My parents said unless the car has an airbag, I can't buy one. I believe airbags were not availible until 1990 and the IROC was discontinued in '89. I would really rather have an IROC, so if anyone has any knowlege of installing an airbag steeringwheel, possibly from a later 3rd gen, 4th gen or other GM vehicle into an earlier IROC, it would be of great help. Thanks

Actually the IrocZ was produced up until the early part of 1990.

not only that, but there is a lot more to the "retrofit" wiring than just putting in a column with an airbag...

I know you'd need to place a few impact sensors in the car and wire a bit, but would it be a viable idea to fit a 91-92 steering column into an older Camaro?

yea, it's viable, but you'd probably be better off to get everything from a 90-92 if you're gonna do it "right". most of the wiring is inside the car cuz that's where the arming sensor, disc. sensor, module, and resistor resides... only thing outside the cabin is the forward sensor, which is up under the nose of the car... and if you should get the parts from a 90-92, the module is well up behind the dash, but easy to acquire if you know what you're doing.
