ignition switch removal
I need the steps involved in removing the ignition switch at the base of the steering column. I've got a haynes manual, but am having a little trouble understanding their directions. So has anyone replaced this and found any shortcuts or helpful hints for doing so?

I'm not sure how helpful it would be but I'm attaching a link that gives some idea on how to dissasemble the steering column. Although it is due to it being a loose/wobbly tilt column and doesn't mention in detail how to remove the ignition switch.

if your switch is like mine...when you get there it has one screw that holds it in, and a wire that unplugs on the column. its not an easy task......also if youre replacing the switch and have the vehicle anti theft system on there, youre probably going to need to get a key made at the dealer. this just happened to me and i replaced my switch last week....

Blackbetty89, the best way for you to do this is to first disconnect the battery. Next unless you are extremely skinny or very flexible, I would suggest removing the drivers seat from the car so you have more room to work. Next remove the two bolts holding the steering column to the dash and lower it down. To keep from damaging it, put something under it to support it off the floor. Now you can work on the ignition switch without any difficulty. Just make sure you adjust it and the dimmer switch before putting the column back up.
