In my quest to get my '88 T/A up and running, i have found that the TPI harness has been hacked up severely.I hve managed fix most of them, that i found. Figuring all was good, i powered the car up and tried to start it. I was rewared with a "smoke genie" from the ECM. So guess i did not find all the problems. Anyway, i got a complete, uncut harness, along with an ecm, Maf, all relays and sensors from a 87 Iroc. The fellow i got it from was going to do a tpi retrofit in a 68 camaro, but sold the car befroe he ever got started. This is a meticulously removed harness, uncut and labelled. I got it and a complete tpi intake, injectors and all, for 150 bucks.

My only concern here is that the T/A has a digital dash, and the iroc did not, Is this going to be a problem? I searched the board and have read that the ECM and controls some of the dash functions. If this is so, i may be S.O.L in getting this dash to work( i really want it to, but if not, plan b).I have not managed to get the dash to come on except for the turn signal indicators, so i'm not sure if it even works.
thanx for any input on this, im am trying to get this car up and running, and ready to go for our anniversarry(sp?) My wife has always wanted a T-Top f body and the body is too nice too let go.

 

I can't speak for the standard '88 models, but the 91-92 Camaros have an all digital interface. No cables anywhere -- so it shouldn't be too hard. Worst case scenario, you have to swap out your cluster to an older, more "analog" style unit.

Your smoke genie may point to a replacement. In fact, if it were me, I'd start off with a replacement ECM just to avoid any problems from your potentially fried ECM. Check with: http://www.tacreationsusa.com/ for a replacement. I got my LO3 ECM for $30 and they had 50 more on the shelf. They're local to me and really cool guys. I'd swap in the new harness with the old ECM and see if any more genies pop out. If not, plug the new ECM in & give it a shot...

One of my friends is always taking about the "magic smoke" in electronics...he says that when electronics smoke out & die it's because the "magic smoke" that did all the wonders has been let free...hehehe...
