Remote Starters

Perhaps my search was faulty, but I did not discover the vast treasure trove of information on this topic in the archives that I kind of assumed would be there.

Now that it is bitingly cold here in lovely New England, I would like to get a remote starter/keyless entry/trunk release system for my fiance's '92 Formula (no alarm needed). I am wondering how hard they are to install, and whether it is simply a good idea to go to either a chain (Best Buy, Circuit City) or a local car electronics shop and pay to have a system installed?

I found this company on the internet, and they have a harness for our cars that supposedly cuts the installation time in half. Anyone have experience with them?:

Thanks for your opinions, ideas, experiences, suggestions.

Just keep in mind that its not good to warm up your car by letting it idle..and if something was wrong with your engine (lets say you had bad engine knock), you wouldnt know right away because you were inside and things could go wrong quickly. That 5-10min not being around the car took away that engines chance to be savd! I do not like remote starters. It's better to warm up your car witha light load, not letting it sit there. Putting that aside, I do not know that company, but installing remote starters only requirs basic electronics knowledge.

92, you're going to need to get around the pass key. It's an auto not a manual right? Not a fan for the bulldog stuff, I like the DEI stuff that's out now, but the fobs seen to puke to often. I had the Viper 160 in my truck and LOVED it. 2 Aux outs so you could do hatch pop and windows, or some thing. I had one channel on the fog lights, lit up the yard so I could see if the gate was closed before letting the dog out at night. Left off dome light supervision and put the dome light on the other channel with an added cargo light. I've never used that bull dog harness but help with the install, can't say. I never recommend them on manual cars, even the 'manual trany' ones. And I can't see you having any problems. Put 209+K on my 94 truck, did everything wrong, and it still runs like a top.

Bulldog has the T wire harness that would speed up things & also make for a clean install because it can be removed, along with any trace that there ever was something there...

I think your 92 has a resistor in the key, so your chip will need that disabled, or DEI and other's sell items to disable it, or measue the resistance in the key and find a close resistor to put in line....

sorry i dont mean to hijack the thread but i didnt want to start a new one.

how much would it cost to put an average alarm system in my car with a remote start and keyless entry and trunk release? i found a couple of units on e-bay pretty cheap but what would be a ballpark figure for someone to install it if i bought the system?

here is the link to the alarm system i found for under $70 will this do the job right if i get someone to install it or is it one of those to good to be true things b/c all the other systems like this are going for much more?
