Light problem
My buddy put in my cd player the other day and it plays fine, but now the lights will pop up and not go down and the guage lights don't work anymore. When I turned on my lights after he put the cd player in I heard a spark sound, so I'm not sure if something shorted out or if I blew a fuse blah blah blah, I have no idea. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!
What is you buddy's phone number?
There is a chance that in splicing in the wiring for the radio lighting, something was inadvertently grounded. Also, Firebirds have a dimmer module that is separate from the dimmer control **** on the dash. Depending on the head, and how it was installed, the output transistor from this dimmer module may be fried (that little POP you heard).
Some caution must be used and an understanding of the system must be had before connecting additional loads to the dimmer module.
The headlight door control system uses input from the park/dash light circuit to close the doors.

If I were to take out the head unit how would I go about fixing the problem we created before reinstalling the head unit?
Perform a search for firebird dimmers. The dimmer control is located in the lower left corner of the center I/P pod, just below the radio. If you've got any electronics experience, replacing the NPN audio power transistor in the control should repair it.
Here's one of the thread I found in a quick search:

Thanks a lot, I'll try this, it sounds like the same problem I have. Will this fix the lights not going back down all of a sudden too?
