wiper motor

My wipers stopped workin yesterday. I went and looked at the wiper motor today and noticed that it would work if the metal cylinder was pushed towards the firewall, its like its shorting out unless i touch the metal to the firewall, its strange. I cant figure it out, i pulled the motor, then plugged it in again and turned on teh switch and then nothing. Any ideas

Sounds like it needs a better ground.

I read that there is a brass strip on one of the screw holes that is the ground? The brass strip is broken where it meets the rubber isolater. I was missng one of the bolts that hold the motor to the firewall, the bottom one because the rubber isolater was missing when i was given the motor. Its been on there fore 4 years and the motor worked fine till now. I need to find a way to gorund this out Where on the motor body can i attach a ground wire to run to the firewall?

I got it grounded and installed it, went to turn on the wipers and all they do is go up an inch or 2 and then back down, the motor is making a ticking noises and it only works on high, no low or delay. Now i did not plug in the wires that go to the side of the plastic cover so that could be why i get no dealy, im not sure?

Ive taken the cover off and don't know which position the blue plastic piece is supposed to be pointing in and how do i know if the drive pin is set to park? If that is not set properly, would that be why they are only going up an inch?

Well i finally fixed my wipers so if anyone else has the same problem, its your motor. I checked all the wire voltages and even replaced the black cover with the circuitboard in it but no luck. I got a second hand motor and installed it today and now everything works .... first time ive seen the delay function work since ive had the car!
