wiring my shifter
I just put a B&M Quicksilver shifter in my 87 Trans Am, but i dont know how to hook up the nuetral safety switch or the backup light switch. I dont really know much about wiring. Another thing is my car wont even turn over. Could that be because the switches arent connected? There is a big connection that had about 5 wires that hooked up to my stock shifter, but i have no idea how you would hook it up to my new shifter. Anyone know whats goin on?

Not very helpful, because like i said, i dont know much about wiring. But thanks. and you dont have to be an idiot about it, of course it came with instructions, but the instructions were obviously made for people who know about wiring. the reason my car wasnt turning over was because a plug that went to the bottom of my stock shifter was, obviously, dissconnected. So i plugged it in to see if that was the problem and it started. But i still dont know what that is. Neutral safety? and how would i hook it up to my new shifter? I really appriciate the help, but you can keep the smart comments.
I only ASKED because some aftermarket accessories are just an item in a box (if that), and you're left all to yourself to figure it out.
The wiring is not that difficult. What you see in the diagram is exactly what you should see in the car. The same color wires should be at the shifter's neutral safety switch. If the aftermarket shifter has different wire colors but lists the function of each wire, you can match them to their counterpart in the original harness.
The starter will not operate unless the neutral safety switch is connected. And the hatch release won't work. And the back-up lights won't work. Hopefully, your shifter has a switch that has at least six wires, or you may have an incompatible unit.
And I'll try to keep my comments a little dumber next time.
