New fog lights...

Ok. I have the fog lights and the fog light switch for the inside panel. So, what should I do to wire the lights in? I know that will need to connect the hot to the battery and the ground to the battery and the switch needs to be inline on the hot wire. But, beyond that, I am lost. Thanks.

You also need a relay and a fuse. Use the switch to control the relay, which will turn your lights on and off. Without the relay, you can burn up the switch, and the fuse is to protect the relay. I found a simple diagram...

That is a lot more help than some of the more complex diagrams I've found. I look at those and I am lost. Where could I get the relay? Is it in the car already?

Bosch relays are so common you can find them almost anywhere. Local auto parts store will probobly have them in stock.

Would that relay make the fogs go off when I hit the high beams? I would rather have control of when they go off. I like the highs on with the fogs...lol, super bright!!

By that diagram, fog lights are controlled by the switch only, regardless of your other lights.

I should be able to get the relay and the fuse and holder from Auto Zone or somewhere.
I just need to see if the pig tail for the switch is in my dash. If it's not, I'll have to get one somewhere. Might find one in a junk yard, I hope. I have the switch, not the plug.

Glad to have helped...inadvertently. I had to pass on the foglights I wanted. Cash constraints. I will get them sometime. Having functional high/lows was more important than fog lights. I hate that thing.

One of the functions of the fog lights that I'd like to have is to signal other drivers, such as blinking them a couple of times so they know it's ok to cut in front, etc. Can't do this in the daytime 'cause the lights are off.

Looks like this electrical circuit will do the trick. Can it be added to the existing wiring without interference? If not, is there a wiring modification to enable the high-beam switch to flash the fog lights, like the European cars do?

91_5.7_TPI, if you feel confused by the wiring diagrams, I would suggest you find somebody local to help ya out. I'd love to but I'm kinda far. You can post on your regional board or regional section in this forums, I'm sure you can find somebody with electrically handy.

Aaron, if you need help with your install, bring your ride down to Austin, to one of our local meets. We have a great group down here. I'l' give you a hand with the installation if you need.

Lou

Aaron, I also have relays and some wire so it shouldn't be a problem to install something as simple as fog lights.

BTW, I really like your car. It is gorgeous. I guess the hood and stripes help gain some respect. You really oughta bring it down here to Austin. You can maybe cruise with Stephan (also from Waco) or other folks from up there. Check us out sometime at ATGO (AustinThirdGen.Org) but not right now, we lost all data.

Anyway, back on topic, the schematic from Al Hasse is good. And if anybody needs, I probably still have an old fog light switch from an '84 that I parted out. That way, it would fit right into the dash, looking OEM. And it's lit and I believe also has an LED in it to signal that it's on. And if you beg long enough, I might even find the connector for the switch.

Thanks. It means alot to me to hear that.

That is what the switch looks like. I have one. I had to put off the fog lights for a while. My high/low switch died and I got a LT1 cam and the switch for the same cost as the fogs...lol.

Are you guys going to the F-Body meet in Atlanta this....summer/spring? My local club is, well, at least some of us are. Going to Bowling Green too. And maybe the Power Tour. I need some gas money. heh.

Does anyone know where I can get wires that hold the fog light bulb? Mine are all corroded and need to be replaced.

There is some site that sells them. Give me a minute to dig through my e-mails, and I will find it for you.

------------------------------------edit-----------------------------

Sorry, man. It looks like I deleted the e-mail. I can't remember who sold them. I'll try browsing around and see if I can find them.

Well I bought new bulbs and they come with the connector and wire, so I take it Pep Boys, and they said they'll install them for $5. So I said alright, they go to put them in, and they test the fog lights, and they stil won't light up. I checked the fuse panel and replaced the fuse, still nothing. So I changed the fuse, changed the bulbs/wires and it still doesn't work. I have no idea what else it could be.

Oh, also, before I even did any work on the lights, the switch on the dash would light when "on", and after we did the fuse and bulbs/wires, the switch won't light up now...

Ok, I bought some fog lights for my car. I have the wiring ready to go (car didn't come with them), but I don't know which plugs is which on the stock fog light switch (bought at a swap meet). There are four plugs on it.
There are arranged like this with the I's being plugs and the .'s showing empty spots
I
.I
II

I know that one is ground, one is ground, on is power and one is to the lights, but what is the 4th for and which is which. Thanks alot.
