Tachometer Question
In regards to early 80's instrument clusters (84 in particular):
Will the tach from a V6 car read correctly in a V8 car? Is there a dip switch to change from V6 to V8 mode? Or does a V8 need a different tach from a V6?
If they use different tachs, how can you tell the tachs apart?

v6 has 6000 rpm redline, some v8s have 5500, most v8s have 5000 rpm redline. Sorry no dip switch to set and the driver boards are different. HTH

V6 to V8 tach
The resistor in a V6 tach is different than the resistor in a V8 tach. So a V6 tach cannot be used with a V8 engine. Now my question is, what ohm resistor can I put in my V6 tach to make it compatible with a V8 engine?
