fuseable link

I discovered a burned wire that comes through the metal heat shield next to my starter solenoid. The wire or fuseable link must still be inside the tube. The burned wire piggybacks on the HOT side of the solenoid with a larger wire. Due to this burned wire the car will not start. What size wire, butt connector and fuseable link do I ask for at Auto Zone? Any ideas on how to easily fish the wire out of the tube so it can be repaired? Oh, it's an '82 Z-28, 305 CFI, auto trans. Camaro. thanks

Disconnect the battery and all the leads on the starter positive stud. You should be able to pull the wire bundle back and forth through the tube to expose on end of the broken one. You could also just push the new wire through the tube and forget the old one.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

There are a couple size wires going down there. I think the biggest one is 8AWG but I know there is a 10AWG that goes down there too.
