Brake light issue???
Hey everyone, just picked up a 87 TA and when the i press the brakes down, the left taillight comes on, and the reverse light also comes on- only on the left side, and the right taillight doesnt turn on, i already checked the bulbs and they are good!! Also when the right blinker is on the light is very dim but flashing, and the left is fine??? I also noticed when the lights on are- the left tailight is on bright and the right is dim and the reverse lights are on?? this is wierd and i need to correct it or i cant pass inspection in NY!! Thank you for your comments!!

im pretty sure you have the wrong bulb in the wrong part of the tail lights. like the brake bulb you have in the reverse part . take all your lights out of the tail lights and put your 4-ways on and put the 2 flashing in the yellow spots for the blinkers, then hit the brakes and put them in the red spots for the brake likes and so on. goodluck

<B>The way the harness comes from the factory with the
appropriate breakouts it should be difficult to have the wrong lamps in holes.
It sounds like your car was worked on before.
You need to back-track.
Remove the electrical tape from the harness so you
can see what you have.
Probably old splices.
Now divide and conquer.
Use a voltmeter and test one wire at a time to see what
it does (is there 12 volts on it when the brake pedal is
depressed or when the turn signal is activated)? etc.
If it was messed up too much by the previous owner
the fastest way to redo it is to cut the
harness near the thicker part and splice new wires
to the appropriate lamps.

it could be what i said which is a lot easier to check and will only take minutes not hours and if its not theres 5 mins down the drain. ive put bulbs in wrong before and when i hit the brakes my turn lights would light and when i hit the turn signals my brake lights would flash due to the wrong bulb in the harness being in the wrong spot on the tail light housing. if thats not the case go to the JY and get a new harness for 5 bucks and plug it in. the bulbs arent marked for what hole they go into, its easy to get em in the wrong spot.
