I don't know where the relay is but if you find it and tap it while the key is turned and the starter engages the relay is bad.

I think it is more likely that the solonoid on your starter is bad because they will stick when they are going bad and if you turn the key a bunch of the times and it engages then that is probably what it is.

Make sure you check the basics, too, like the electrical grounds in the system and the condition of the wires going to the starter. My TA had some starting issues, but when I crawled under the car, I could see why...ghoulish wiring job!

Yeah, definitely check the condition of your grounds and wiring. No-start condition when hot can be related to issues from those areas, or from the solenoid in the starter getting too hot. You have headers?

As for the alarm, I can't answer that because I have no experience with them.

I haven't located all of the ground cables in a thirdgen (still kind of new to them). There is at least one small one on the DS core support, and you need to make sure that the negative battery cable is good and clean at both ends (positive cable, too). There is a larger braided ground strap on the firewall, and the the starter itself has a ground. Look at the following pic, and you'll see the ground wire is the black one on the smaller terminal towards the top of the starter:

Make sure all starter connections are clean, and that the wires are in good condition (unlike the ones in the pic!)

Well, have you checked the wires and grounds yet? Not to sound like a broken record here, but they very well might be the problem, as I have said above. Heat increases electrical resistance, so if the wiring is in poor shape it can cause a no-start condition when hot. Wait a while, everything cools down, resistance decreases, and the wires supply the needed current to the starter. This seems to be what you are describing.

yeap thats the next thing to try is the positive cable and the grounds the ground is good to the altenater but the positive over heated on me once years agao and guess it finally caught up with me. the positive one i had on order but classic industries stopped selling it i dnot know who sell the one for 86 t/a . so i have to rig one up that will have the other wires on it as well i hope that will get it done.
