Aftermarket igniton install
I have a heavily modified 383 with a GM TPI setup in a 1986 firebird (I'm going TPIS Mini ram this fall). I'm trying to install a Jacobs fire control 3000, and their install instructions are too vague and vendor specific. Their wiring schematics show the use of "ONLY" Their external coil, but have in the sales description that the control box will work with any igntion, with an internal/external coil. How do I wire my internal coil to the control box?? any Ideas?? Tech support is a joke, all they want you to do is buy more products... I'm almost ready to send the thing back. Thanks for any help or ideas,

I wish I could help, I just installed the Accel 300+ ignition on my LB9. Honestly I was happy with it. It has a rev limiter, makes my slightly over cammed combination idle a lot better, and my mileage went up too. I know nothing about the Jacobs ignition, but the Accel just plugged into the car in place of the stock distributor, it was really easy. It did come with a coil but I could have used the stock one too. Hardest part for me was hiding everything and running the wires because I am picky.

Thanks anyway 1meanz,
I emailed tech support today, hopefully they will answer my questions soon. I finally finished the install of a TPI on my 383 and would like a little help on the bottom end as far as the idle quality goes. I do believe that my cam (234 degrees @ .050 lift) may be the cause of all my woes, but I won't know for sure until I get that Jacobs box installed. I did consider the Accel ignition package, but I was attracted to the "up to 7 sparks per combustion cycle" sales pitch. My goal was to get a stock TPI system installed, then upgrade to the lingenfelter or tpis intake setup, after all the bugs were worked out of the system. Oh well, later

Thats a decent amount of cam, but then again you are running a 383, larger displacment will tame the cam down a bit. Still that much cam I have a feeling will be a tad large for the stock TPI. I am afraid it is going to be a little soggy off idle. Just get that superram or Stealthram on there as soon as you can and get all your power back.
