Gauge wiring question...
Gauge wiring question...
I'm getting a 1991 Firebird V6 that doesn't run, and am planning to swap a V8 into it.
I'd like to just drop a standard carbed SBC into it, no computer controls, maybe a T-5 transmission, with a 3.42 4th gen rear.
How are the gauges set up in the 1991 Firebirds? Are the speedometers mechanical or electrical, what will I have to do for things like the tach, and other gauges?

Speedos are electric from at least 1986 to 92 on firebirds. Probably keep the computer for the speedo. I'd recommend swapping a whole V8 140MPH/8000RPM cluster from a 85-92 T/A. If you never go above 6000 RPM then swap in a 6000 rpm V8 tach.
A V8 needs a different tach and oil pressure gauge.

Thanks for the reply. I'm considering other options as well. I totalled my 96 Formula, and have been parting it out. I still have the engine, harness and PCM and am considering swapping that into the 3rd gen car.
