Fog lights on?

Hey guys, is there any legal, electrical, or whatever reason why i shouldn't just hardwire my foglights to run with my headlights?

We’re guessing you live in London. There are many reasons why you or anybody
else shouldn’t run with excessive lighting. I’ll just pick one reason at random:
Everybody using lights, of which many are dorkishly bright, forces motorcycles
to run ridiculously overbright lights so that they will be seen above all the
headlight pollution that’s going these days.</FONT>

wow, nice negativity. For one, i'm an AVID motorcyclist. Hell, i drive my motorcycle MORE then my car (when it's running.. lol). So i know that the not even bright lights pointed at the ground from my front clip is going to hurt a any oncomming traffic's eyes, ESSPECIALLY compared to these guys who jack there SUV's up another foot or two, install bright blue headlights and driver around glad they can see the road.

If Fog lights were dorky, why did they come standard on I-Rock/Z28'? ... so yea, think on that one a bit.

LOL... Yea, but not on a convertible.

Anyways... I guess if no one has anything usefull to say, then i'm fine to do this.

Let me worry about style. This isn't your car. I think fog lights look great. I think flames are cheesy, i think spinners are retarted, i hate leather interiors, and i red interiors are RETARTED... but i don't go around the forums telling people that what they like is 'dorky'.

On a similar [and positive note] approach to using fog lights for more than mere decoration, a great mod would be to wire the fog light "on" connection into the high-low-beam control on the left side of the steering wheel, so that pulling back on the stalk a small movement "flashes" the fog lights on. This is the way a Porsche I had was setup and it was great for letting other drivers know you've seen them and they should proceed turning, etc, etc.

At night, both our Camaros run the fog lights on with the headlights, and without the headlights at dawn and dusk, as an added safety measure which doesn't blind other drivers.

Being able to "blink" them without reaching all the way to the dash would be great!

Sounds interesting. Are there any aftermarket headlight switches that can do that? Would be pretty nice to swap it in and just hook it up.

Don't think so, but there's a bunch of really smart electronics wizards here on TGO that could sketch one up. Howabout it, anyone have a concept?

Its illegal to have your fogs on when driving in non-foggy condition in the UK. Both front and rear fogs come under this law as they are much brighter than standard lights. There is a condition that there has to be less than 100 feet of visability for then to be leggal to have on. Though means sod all to the boy racers, however my mum did get caught out in a Jap import which had a dickie rear fog light that came on as though it was posessed. She got pulled over and told to turn it off.

Then that is if you live in the UK, i don't know if the laws in the Us are the same.
